Area Rug Cleaning
A wool oriental and a synthetic hallway runner don't clean the same way, and treating them like they do is how rugs get ruined. We test each piece first and pick the method that fits it.

Wool and oriental rugs are hand-knotted with dyes that can bleed or fade under the wrong cleaning agent, and synthetic rugs can mat down permanently if dried standing up. We identify what we're working with before we start, not after something goes wrong.
How It Works
Tell us the size and material, we handle the rest.
We check fiber type, dye stability, and existing damage.
A deep-extraction pass removes grit trapped in the pile.
The rug gets washed with a solution matched to its fiber.
Rugs dry flat, never standing, to avoid stretching or bleeding.
Clean, dry, and ready to put back down.
Most jobs we run involve more than one service. Here's what we're also asked for alongside area rug cleaning.
We take same-day calls for situations like these.
Local Know-How
Rugs get treated as an afterthought compared to wall-to-wall carpet, but a hand-knotted wool piece is often worth more per square foot and needs a genuinely different process. Here's what actually matters.
These rugs are woven and dyed differently than wall-to-wall carpet, and the wrong method can bleed color, shrink the fibers, or wreck the fringe. We check colorfastness first and dry everything flat instead of standing it up.
Synthetic fibers are more forgiving of stronger cleaning agents, but they mat down permanently if dried while standing or compressed — a different failure mode than wool, but still a real risk with the wrong process.
A rug can look clean while still holding a surprising amount of dry soil deep in the base of the pile. That's what actually wears out the fibers over time, which is why dust extraction happens before any wet cleaning.
A musty smell after a rug's been rolled up in storage usually means some moisture got trapped before it went away. Odor treatment addresses this directly instead of just masking it.
Pricing is based on square footage and fiber type — a wool oriental takes more time and a gentler process than a synthetic rug the same size. Fringe condition and pet staining can add a bit more.
We offer free pickup and delivery for rug cleaning across Manhattan and into Chelsea, Gramercy Park, and the Upper East and West Sides — no need to haul a rolled-up rug yourself.
